Idea

Turning the interest into design

The project began with an exploration of our personal interests through sketching. In the initial stage, I focused on seafood photography and the process of making tea with music as my main inspirations.

After receiving feedback from the professor, I decided to focus on tea preparation, as it is something I enjoy and personally connect with. I felt that each step in making tea requires precision and care, which reminded me of the process involved in interior design. In my sketches, I illustrated the tea-making process, and along the edges, I included lyrics from my favorite singer, Khalid Abdulrahman, to reflect a personal and cultural touch.

Marcello Gandini Inspiration

This project was a collaboration with Marcello Gandini, and we were asked by the professor to draw inspiration from his design philosophy. What stood out to me in his car designs was the innovative door openings, which I translated into the form of my carpet seating. I followed the flowing lines and dynamic structure to shape a unique and functional seating experience inspired by Gandini’s work.

Carpet Design

The model was a carpet inspired design that mimicked the appearance of the ghutra, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. The singer I chose, Khalid Abdulrahman, is often seen wearing a red ghutra, which influenced the color and pattern. From this form, I designed an adjustable seating arrangement integrated with a dedicated tea preparation area that includes heat insulation for safety and functionality.

This is the final layout of the exhibition. I displayed my work hanging from the first floor, while the rest was arranged on the floor to reflect the flow of my design. I also brought in my tea preparation setup and the carpet I used, allowing the space to fully represent the concept behind my project.
